Free download Lange’s Handbook of Chemistry (16th edition) by James G. Speight in pdf.
The Sixteenth Edition of Lange’s Handbook of Chemistry introduces a refreshed format under new editorial leadership. Despite these changes, it continues to serve as a comprehensive, one-volume reference for chemists and chemical engineers, catering to both professionals and students.
The Handbook’s purpose remains unchanged: to provide enough data to meet general user needs without requiring additional reference materials. The extensive collection of numerical tables, along with newly added ones, is designed to save users significant time.
This edition adopts a streamlined structure, consolidating content into four major sections instead of the 11 found in previous editions.
Section 1: Inorganic Chemistry – This section features tables on the physical properties of elements (including newly discovered ones) and thousands of inorganic compounds.
Section 2: Organic Chemistry – Similar to Section 1, this section presents physical property data for organic compounds alongside expanded details on condensed polynuclear aromatic compounds.
Section 3: Spectroscopy – This section provides an overview of key spectroscopic techniques and includes tables for spectroscopic properties of elements, inorganic, and organic compounds.
Section 4: General Information and Conversion Tables – Consolidates all general information and conversion data previously distributed across multiple sections.
Sections 1 and 2 offer detailed data for compounds, including (where available): names, structural formulas, formula weights, densities, refractive indices, melting and boiling points, flash points, dielectric constants, dipole moments, solubility in water and organic solvents, as well as thermal and electrical conductivity. Alternative and long-standing trivial names are retained for user convenience.
These sections also feature thermodynamic data such as enthalpies and Gibbs energies of formation, entropies, heat capacities, and critical properties (temperature, pressure, and volume), alongside heats of melting, vaporization, sublimation, and specific heat at various temperatures.
Section 3 retains its focus on infrared, Raman, fluorescence spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, and X-ray spectrometry. Section 4 preserves practical laboratory information and methods, offering essential procedures for various laboratory applications.
