Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi is organizing a 4-day Workshop on Gene Cloning Techniques during November 11-14, 2014 at Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, Karachi-75270, Pakistan.
Classical gene cloning involves the transfer of a gene or its fragment from one organism to a self-replicating genetic element referred as cloning vehicle, such as bacterial plasmid. Gene cloning is an approach to create copies of a particular gene in pure form for downstream applications, such as transgenic organisms, expression of recombinant proteins, genotyping, cDNA library construction, mutagenesis, gene therapy, and DNA
sequencing.
Industrial application of gene cloning and recombinant protein expression are unlimited as organisms such as bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells are being used as living laboratories for the production of antibiotics, humanized monoclonal antibodies, hormones, vitamins, and a variety of therapeutic agents.
Aims and Focuses
The aim of this workshop is to provide basic understanding of gene cloning and its application in recombinant protein expression, purification, and production. Major topics will include various cloning strategies, PCR amplification, and gene expression systems for the production of recombinant proteins.
Registration
The workshop is designed for the participants from the life sciences background with basic knowledge of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Participation is open for students, researchers and professionals from academia and R&D institutions, including industries.
Registration Fee
Rs. 8,000/- only, payable by cheque or pay-order (In favor of Director PCMD)
